“LCI chairpersons are the first point of contact between the government and the people. They handle critical community issues, so residents must carefully choose leaders who are responsible and committed to serving them,” he said.

He described LCI leaders as the backbone of local governance, noting that they serve as the first link between citizens and government institutions.

According to the RDC, village chairpersons play a central role in maintaining security, resolving domestic and land disputes, mobilizing residents for government programmes, and coordinating development initiatives at the grassroots level.

Mukiibi warned against voter apathy, stressing that the quality of leadership at the village level has a direct impact on the effectiveness of services delivered in communities.

“These leaders are the ones who start the service chain at the grassroots. When you elect the right person at the village level, it strengthens leadership and service delivery at all higher levels,” he added.

He further appealed to residents to participate peacefully and in large numbers to ensure credible and representative leadership in their villages.

He noted that meaningful participation in local elections strengthens democracy and empowers communities to choose leaders who understand and can address their immediate challenges.

The upcoming LCI elections are expected to play a significant role in shaping grassroots governance and enhancing accountability in Mityana District.
